L04 · Assembly and soldering
THT assembly, the much-requested classic
Despite the advance of SMT, THT (through-hole technology) assembly remains indispensable in many applications.

When THT is the right choice
The soldered leads are mechanically stable and durable. That is why the technology is particularly suited to connectors, power electronics and components that must withstand high thermal or mechanical loads.
- High mechanical strength: ideal for heavily stressed components.
- Reliable in harsh environments: resistant to vibration and temperature changes.
- Easy rework: components are easier to replace or modify in service.
Two lead-free soldering processes
For safe, durable solder joints we rely on lead-free processes for THT.
- Wave soldering is the efficient solution for large quantities at consistently high quality.
- Selective soldering is very flexible and ideal for assemblies with components on both sides.
Where THT is needed
Our processes comply with current environmental and RoHS directives. THT therefore remains a key technology in industrial electronics, automation technology, medical technology and power electronics.
Frequently asked questions
Do you also solder THT with leaded solder?
For THT we rely on lead-free processes. In selective soldering we can switch to leaded solder if required.
When do I choose THT instead of SMD?
When components are under heavy mechanical or thermal stress, such as connectors or power parts. Often a mix of SMD and THT is the best solution.
